Current President of the The Ark Edna Rijkaard is a retired educator and also a lay-pastor of the Moravian Church, her responsibilities include keeping an eye on the daily operations and organisation of The Ark Outreach Centre and developing new initiatives.
She stressed that the Foundation wants to cooperate with any non-government organisation that has identical goals. Mentioning some examples of the community work that is being done in the Outreach Centre, Edna said, "We have a reading programme for six to eight children from less fortunate families, who come here once per week. We want them to get acquainted with books written in English and in Dutch. They also had a lecture about a book given by St.Maarten publisher Lasana Sekou."
Among other projects Edna mentioned were the flea market and tea market that the Foundation organises. "It's not only fundraising, but also an opportunity for the less fortunate to obtain good clothing at affordable prizes.
The next flea market will be held in December." Lessons in budgeting, free voluntary consults by a chiropractic therapist, dentist, medical doctor and other specialists are also part of the programme.
