The Sint Maarten Museum a 18th Century West Indian House is part of the Sint Maarten National Heritage Foundation
, and was just recently restored almost to its original form. It hosts rotating cultural exhibits and houses a permanent historical collection of Caribbean folklore and historical artifacts, including Arawak pottery, plantation-era artifacts, period photos and items from HMS Proselyte, the frigate that sank off Fort Amsterdam in 1801.
If you're interested in hurricanes, there's a good exhibit on the havoc wreaked by Hurricanes Luis and Lenny.
The shop downstairs
