Over the past decade St. Maarten
- St. Martin has evolved as
a premier yachting destination.
Thanks to solid infrastructure
and the commitment of the marine
service industry to employ highly
trained personnel, the island
is able to support and maintain
the needs of modern yachts to
the highest standard.
The island's duty free status,
plus ease of access by air and
sea, makes it possible for suppliers
to carry an inventory as extensive
as those found in many businesses
on the mainland. World
class marinas offer their
guests, captains and crew every
convenience; sheltered, and
within easy distance of all
amenities, they make the perfect
base.
Two internationally recognized
yachting events, the St. Maarten
Heineken
Regatta and the St.
Maarten Charter Yacht Exhibition
(SCYE), and new events like
Captian
Oliver's Carib Beer Regatta
and the Classic
Yacht Regatta, place the
island firmly on the world's
yachting agenda.

St.
Maarten - St. Martin is the
region's most popular yachting
destination.
Every March, hundreds of
participants from Europe,
the United States, and the
Caribbean visit St. Maarten
to compete in one of the world's
biggest sailing events ---
the St. Maarten Heineken
Regatta. An event that
has come to symbolize the
island's prominence as a sailing
venue and has been named one
of the top 20 yachting events
in the world.
St. Maarten is one of the few
places in the world where the
average person can sail on a
world-class racing boat.
The St. Maarten 12
Metre Challenge, is open
year round and gives visitors
the chance to experience first-hand
the thrill of America's Cup
racing.

Aspiring
sailors serve as crew aboard
the U.S. Stars and Stripes, which
raced in 1987, or the Canadian
contenders Canada II, True North,
and True North IV, as these high-performance
boats are put through their paces
on a shortened America's Cup
course. Previous sailing experience
is not necessary, only a sense
of adventure. |
